Funky Business authors Kjell Nordstrom and Jonas Ridderstrale in Moscow

Famous authors of the Funky Business book and Professors of the Stockholm School of Economics, Kjell Nordstrom and Jonas Ridderstrale came to Moscow to present their training session within the frames of the “Go-To-IT” project and presentation at the round table of the Harvard Business Review magazine.

 “INTO THE FUTURE!” is an all-Russian business project for young and successful people who are interested in new opportunities to contribute to the high-tech sector development in Russia. The project is carried out in line with the Russian President's initiative to create innovative economic environment and attract the brightest brains to the IT industry.

Within the frames of the last module of NOVARTIS Business Academy corporate educational program of SSE Russia Alexander Bard delivered a lecture about social networks, business development and modern social trends. Alexander Bard is a famous author of the business book “Netocracy”, which was published in Russia by the Stockholm School of Economics publishing house. Alexander Bard is now an advisor of the Swedish Government, participant of the project SpeakersNet – a virtual analogue of the speakers corner in Hide Park, TV-speaking person, musical producer and composer.

SSE Russia celebrated Alumni Birthday
On June 10th the first Alumni Birthday of SSE Russia took place in the Moscow conference centre Extropolis.

The event was dedicated to the gala celebration of 5 and 10-years from graduation of Executive MBA, Hans Rausing и Entrepreneurs Essentials groups. Special signs and birthday cakes were prepared for alumni of these groups.

Representatives of the whole SSE Russia community, which is now consists of more than 1000 people came to greet two jubilee groups.

Competition for the best photo capture, lottery and dancing master class became the most successful features of the evening.

In his opening speech Per Hedberg, Academic Director of SSE Russia told about strong network and very close ties that SSE Russia alumni have, he also mentioned the business relations which are constantly being developed within SSE Russia alumni community. “With this event we started a good tradition of celebrating Alumni Birthday every year”, - said Per Hedberg.


     

     




Spring Open Doors
 

On March 25th SSE Russia organized its Spring Open Doors event that took place in Novotel Moscow City Centre and gathered more than 80 guests.

After School presentation guests got a unique opportunity to ask SSE Russia alumni about their impressions from the learning process.

Thanks to Anton Kushner, Vadim Sukhoverhov and Sergey Mitrofanov we have attracted a lot of attention to our Executive MBA programs.

The Open Doors event also included a talk show with the SSE Russia Dean, Dr. Anders Liljenberg and EMBA in Russian Program Director, Pavel Novikov. They discussed Funky Business and modern trends in marketing topics.




Meeting with Jean-Claude Larreche
 


On March 24th Jean-Claude Larreche, the author of the well-known MarkStrat business game presented his book “Momentum Effect. How to Ignite Exceptional Growth” published in the SSE Russia series.
The presentation took place in Biblio Globus - one of the biggest Moscow book store.

SSE Russia alumni came to the presentation to talk to Jean-Claude and to get author’s autographs.




EMBA Oil&Gas alumni among the top-three in the professional ranking
 


Vladimir Bubley
, General Director of the ZAO Keramet and EMBA Oil&Gas alumni of SSE Russia was named among the top-three of the most successful directors of ferrous metallurgy companies of Ukraine in 2009.
All employees of ZAO Keramet think that the SSE Russia education played a great role in this achievement.
We congratulate Vladimir Bubley with the victory and wish him good luck in his professional sphere and social life!



New publication
Dr. Carl Fey, Professor of International Business at SSE Russia and SSE and has experience teaching, doing research, and consulting in Russia for over 15 years, has recently written an article summarizing his thinking on what management practices and strategies work best for firms in Russia drawing on examples of leading firms. The article is targeted for foreign firms entering Russia, but much is also applicable for local firms operating in Russia. For a copy of the article click here.
 


SSE Russia Alumni – The Best Entrepreneur of 2009
SSE Russia alumni Alexander Glushkov, who is the President and the Founder of the leading beauty salons chains MONE became the winner of the international competition “Enterpreneur of the year 2009”, organized by the Ernst & Young company in the “Services” nomination.

Winners of the competition was chosen by the independent jury. “This is the recognition of 11-years development of our company and team. Today MONE is a well-known brand, associated with style, quality and prestige. This year our company became an official stylist of the National competition “Miss Russia 2009”, Fashion week in Moscow and other well established fashion events,” – told Alexander Glushkov.

The competition was held in Russia for the seventh consecutive year within the frames if the international program Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, that aimed to recognize prominent achievements of entrepreneurs and into the development of the world and national economies. In the present time the competition covers around 50 countries.
     
 

 

First Alumni Module


On 6-8 November the first SSE alumni module took place in the vicinity of St. Petersburg. Executive MBA alumni from different groups got the unique opportunity to be back to School for a studying and feel the atmosphere at SSE as they experienced before.
The module took place in the Baltiets hotel, a symbolic place for the first EMBA groups of SSE Russia, because all their modules took place exactly at this place.


Classes were given by Vassily Dermanov, who told about new trends in macroeconomics and Goran Roos, who delivered a lecture about innovations management.
The atmosphere at the module was extremely friendly and the participants enjoyed interaction and appreciated opportunity to become SSE participants once again. They provided good evaluations of the module and suggested us to continue with such activities.
The teachers also enjoyed being in such class and they reflected the teaching was different from normal groups, as the contact with the group and understanding were at highest level.
Next alumni module will take place in the Spring semester.

 


Open Doors Day

 


On October 22 SSE Russia organized it’s Fall Open House event that took place in Marriott Courtyard Moscow City Centre and gathered more than 80 guests.

This year we decided to ask our bright alumni to tell about the School and it’s programs. The audience got a unique opportunity to ask SSE Russia graduates about their impressions from the learning process.

Thanks to Andrey Dashunin, Mikhail Chernyshev, Natalia Shtaltonaya, Maxim Kopylov and Veronika Zusmanovich we have attracted a lot of attention to our Executive MBA programs.

The Open House event also included presentation of program directors and a lecture of Dean, Dr. Anders Liljenberg.



Graduation ceremony for Russian Railways corporate program
In November 2008 SSE Russia launched the first round of corporate educational program for the Russian Railways (RZD) company. During the fall of 2009 35 top managers of RZD defended their Executive Master Theses projects dedicated mostly to strategy, finance and human resources management in their professional business sphere. And on October 18th the gala Graduation ceremony for the first round graduated took place in St. Petersburg.

"Today, we are present at handing of certificates out to the first graduates of the corporate educational program of RZD holding and this shows that the company has laid down a foundation for formation of a corporate university” - told the President of RZD Vladimir Yakunin opened a solemn ceremony of handing of certificates out to the first graduates of the corporate educational program of RZD.
 
Advisor of Stockholm School of Economics. Russia Johnny Lindstrom addressed to participants of the ceremony too, "I wish to address those who receive a certificate today. Do not forget to use the opportunities that are opened for graduates of this program. You have received a chance for communication with the people who run business in various areas of activities with which it is possible not only to discuss new ideas and creative achievements but also to find ways for solving of various problems. The alumni network will help you in planning of personal career and in development of your company."
 
The second round of the corporate educational program for RZD started studying on October 15 of 2009.
The candidates are selected in accordance with requirements of Stockholm School of Economics, Russia: availability of managerial experience of the candidate and leadership potential, progress of career, motivation for learning and skills of team-working.

SSE Russia launched the Management Development Program for the Russian branch of Bristol-Myers Squibb company, a global BioPharma leader.

The BMS MD Program has been designed in close cooperation with BMS Russia and BMS International management team. Among the participants of the Program are top managers of the Company, including Michel Manon, BMS Russia General Manager, Heads of Business Units and middle managers with high leadership potential.



Day of Sweden is our day!
 

The Day of Sweden, a holiday for residents of the city in the Malaya Konyushennaya Street that already became traditional, took place in St. Petersburg on June 27 of 2009. The holiday was organized by the Consulate General of Sweden with participation of Swedish companies and organizations that were working in Russia. Of course, Stockholm School of Economics, Russia could not abstain from participation in this holiday important for our two countries.

The Day of Sweden was timed to three remarkable events: the National Day of Sweden on June 6, the final round of the Volvo Ocean race in St. Petersburg on June 27 and current chairmanship of Sweden in the European Union.

Nineteen Swedish companies and organizations participated in the Day of Sweden on June 27. They presented their activities at the stands located along the pedestrian street. A few thousand people visited celebration of the Day of Sweden this year. They not only got acquainted with activities of the participating companies but also had a possibility to take a closer look at the contemporary Swedish musical culture and to receive information about the tourist potential of Sweden.



SSE at the International Economic Forum
Carl Fey, Professor of the Stockholm School of Economics, and Igor Dukeov, Professor and EMT Area Principle, took part in work of the World Economic Forum. This year, the school is one of the partners of the World Economic Forum responsible for research in Northwestern region.

Igor Dukeov performed a research aimed at finding of global competitiveness of the forum.

Carl Fey took active part in the discussions during the days of the forum and gave an interview in the program of Russia Today TV-channel in which he shared his opinion about the Russian business and its place in the world, about possible options of reaction to the crisis, abut the global financial system and its influence on the Russian economy.



A conference for HR directors was held on June 4
 

Stockholm School of Economics Russia and ANKOR holding held a seminar entitled "Motivation in new economic conditions" in the building of the school in the Shvedsky Pereulok, 2

The topic of the seminar was a vital matter of combating crisis on the labor market in Russia where a serious correction of trends of the previous years was going on. Participants of the seminar also discussed problems of motivation of employees because retention of the key players and work with the opinion leaders were getting more important now.

Among the speakers of the seminar were: Carl Fey, leading expert for Russia and invited guest of the International Economic Forum, Professor of Stockholm School of Economics, who shared results of his latest research of Russian companies and international experience of solving of motivation problems during the crisis period.



JTI and SSE Russia announce partnership
 

On July 9, we reached an agreement on partnership with JTI (Japan Tobacco International) in creation of a joint educational program. For us it will be one of the largest educational projects in the segment of corporate business education!

The program is developed specifically for corporate university IKUSEI that has been functioning in JTI since 2009. Well-known lecturers of the business school will offer a two-year course for 27 key managers of JTI for development of strategic management skills and leadership qualities.

We sincerely hope that this course will not only be useful for both parties that participate in the project but will also be remembered always by all lecturers and students!




Accomplishment of the first round of the program for RZD
 

The first corporate education program for employees of the Russian Railways (RZD) was successfully accomplished!

Thirty-five top managers, graduates of the program, defended their Executive Master Theses projects dedicated mostly to strategy, finance and human resources management in their professional business sphere.

We’ve already received a gratitude letter from RZD that specially emphasized professionalism of lecturers of Stockholm School of Economics, high quality of educational materials and practical importance of the graduation projects of students of the program.

The second round of the program is approaching and it will definitely be equally productive!


The program for the business academy of NOVARTIS is completed
The first round of the educational program for international leader of pharmacology Novartis is completed. The most convenient format was chosen for the group, namely ten modules and special emphasis was put on strategic marketing, finance and human resources management.

Participants of the program presented and defended their EMT projects decently and managers of Novartis praised the strong theoretical base, high-quality analysis of market situations, as well as the research part of the graduation projects.

Graduation ceremony took place in the Stockholm School of Economics in Stockholm. The celebration continued on a boat cruise around the skerries of Stockholm. Bearing in mind that solemn opening of the program took place at a ship during a trip along the Moskva River, it is possible to say boldly that the first round of the sailing of Novartis Business Academy adopted a correct course from the very start!

Eugeny Terukov became our director of corporate programs. He is responsible for development, promotion and implementation of corporate programs of the Stockholm School of Economics Russia.

Eugeny Terukov is a graduate of EMBA program of Stockholm School of 2003. He received higher education in Public Relations specialty in SPGETU and afterwards studied in the US. He also graduated from courses for improvement of qualification for lecturers of the Stockholm School of Economics. Since 2002, he has been teaching disciplines in the field of strategic and applied marketing, organizational changes, techniques of analysis and making of strategic decisions and in SSE Ring, FastTrack, CRDF and BIT programs in our school. Since 1994, Eugeny worked for large foreign and Russian companies at different times. He has a rich managerial experience. Now he co-owner and general director of consulting research company SSE RING.

The staff of the Stockholm School of Economics, Russia wishes Eugeny success on the new interesting post!

Stockholm School of Economics had an Open Doors Day in Moscow

Another Open Doors Day took place in Marriott Tverskaya hotel on April 7 and more than 140 guests visited it. Many potential students were present besides the graduates of the past years. The Open Doors Day included reports of program directors with a presentation of Stockholm School of Economics, Russia, some lecturers of the school and a lecture of Dean, Dr. Anders Liljenberg.

The lecture was dedicated to the situation in contemporary marketing written in the program of the meeting attracted attention of the audience and caused an interesting and serious discussion.

Once again we thank all participants and we are eager to see you again next year at our programs!

A master class at MBA Invest show

MBA Invest show organized by daily business newspaper Vedomosti took place in Holiday Inn St. Petersburg Moskovskie Vorota hotel in St. Petersburg on April 02 of 2009. The main players of the market of business education participated in the show. The main topic of the show was reaction of educational institutions and top managers to the difficult contemporary situation on the labor market and in the economy: how a manager can cope with it, where and how to acquire the skills necessary for coping with it. Participants of the show presented programs of business and MBA education of current importance, as well as anti-crisis short-term programs of additional education for top managers.

We wish to mention a pleasant fact: our graduate, friend and business partner, General Director of Brandflight agency Sergei Mitrofanov has spoken in the framework of the master class too.

The Stockholm School of Economics, Russia permanently strengthens its positions in the sector of business education. Appointment of Per Hedberg on the post of Academic director in Russia is a new confirmation of this.

Per Hedrick Hedberg, graduate of the Stockholm School of Economics and Columbian University, has master degrees in philosophy and arts and is doctor of psychology. He is author of a series of monographs and scientific articles dedicated to various disciplines: behavioral studies, social psychology and theory of motivation.

Hedberg has worked for the Stockholm School of Economics in Russia since 2006 and has earned reputation of excellent specialist and perfect lecturer. We wish him success in the new capacity and interesting productive work!

It is always pleasant for us to speak about personnel changes in the School if they are connected with the employees whom we have known and liked for a very long time already! One of such appointments happened in February of 2009:
Irina Zakharova was appointed as Head of Degree Unit of the Stockholm School of Economics in Russia!
Irina started working for the Stockholm School of Economics already having a big managerial experience. She not only managed departments of several St. Petersburg-based and international companies but also owned her own tourist agency.

In five years of work for the Stockholm School of Economics she passed a successful path from administrative manager, our student, manager of our publishing house to the present appointment. All colleagues and students of the Stockholm School of Economics, Russia wish successful work in the new capacity to Irina! Way to go!

In 2009 the Stockholm School of Economics (Sweden) marks its centennial jubilee.
The Stockholm School of Economics was founded during the years of actively developing industrialization when there appeared a pressing need for well-educated managerial staff. For their education leaders of the Swedish business community of the beginning of the 20th century established the Stockholm School of Economics in 1909. The first group of students who graduated from the School consisted of 110 people.
In a hundred of years of its existence the Stockholm School of Economics passed a glorious way: it has become one of the European leaders of business education, it has its own branches and possesses close relations with universities and business schools of various countries. In this jubilee year the Stockholm School of Economics plans to organize a number of holiday events, conferences and roundtable meetings.
In January SSE Russia team presented themselves at the first centennial kick off in Stockholm. The event gathered all employees of SSE who played two roles at one time – they presented their own departments and were guests of others. The SSE Russia stand presented not only EMBA and corporate programs, but bright staff and traditional Russian treatment – caviar and vodka!

New program kicks off
The Stockholm School of Economics, Russia launched a 10-module training program, titled Sibur Business Academy, for the management of Sibur Group companies on 20 November 2008. The program will enroll 38 top executives from 16 Sibur companies, selected from 6,000 candidates proposed by the Group.
Module One of Sibur Business Academy, taught from 20 to 23 November at a retreat near Moscow, covered Business Development. The participants highly praised the quality of the training material and structure of the course.
We wish the Program Director, Evgeny Terukov, and all Program participants success and many illuminating discoveries in their teaching and learning.
The next Program module is scheduled for the end of January. The Program will run until June 2010.

The Faculty of Marketing and Strategy Stockholm School of Economics has occupied prize-winning places in the international rating
The international professional edition about advertising – "Journal of Advertising" has published a rating of the advertising researches spent by institutes of all world. The centre of client marketing which is a part of Faculty of Marketing and Strategy of the Stockholm School of Economics has occupied an honourable 1 place in Europe and 13 place in the world.

Demand for educational programs in the field of marketing and constantly grows for a long time. At the Stockholm School of Economics in Russia have opened program Executive MBA where to questions of strategy, marketing and market development it is given particular attention. This program is called Executive MBA Strategic Market Development. Within the limits of this program to School come to give lectures teachers from faculty of Marketing and Strategy to the Stockholm School of Economics in Sweden which has occupied places of honour in a prestigious rating “Magazine about Advertising”.

Open House at SSE Russia

More than 60 visitors came to the Open House, held by the Stockholm School of Economics Russia in Moscow on 16 September. This year, visitors enjoyed a unique opportunity to participate in the learning process.
Dean of SSE Russia Dr. Anders Liljenberg gave a lecture on Marketing in a Contemporary Business Environment, exploring the subject of marketing strategy planning based on consumer behavior, and using Ericsson and Nokia as prime examples of a savvy customer policy. Dr. Liljenberg also explained how investment in marketing can bring returns – a subject that sparked maximum interest in the audience.

Johnny Lindstrom, Academic Director and Associate Dean of the School, told the audience about the academic customs and policies espoused by SSE, highlighting the benefits of the Stockholm School of Economics, and sharing his experience of teaching in Russia. The Open House concluded with Executive MBA program directors and other SSE faculty members answering numerous audience questions.

On 29 April a gala presentation for the Novartis Business Academy took place in the Hotel National, Moscow. The new educational project was initiated by the pharmaceutical company Novartis Farma.
The main task of the Business Academy and SSE is preparing a new generation of top managers capable of carrying out multi-level managerial tasks for promoting Novartis products on the Russian market in Russia and for Russia. The educational program is intended for two years.

Governor of Stockholm Region Visits the Stockholm School of Economics in St. Petersburg
On 1 February the Governor of Stockholm Region Per Unckel visited the Stockholm School of Economics in St. Petersburg. The Governor met directors of the MBA programs and gave a speech to students. In his speech Mr. Unckel noted especially that the Stockholm School of Economics is an excellent example of cooperation between St. Petersburg and Stockholm in the area of education and science.

TRANSEARCH Russia

TRANSEARCH Russia   / Top Hunt International becomes an adviser in possible questions of career planning for SSE participants and alumni

On 17 January the Stockholm School of Economics in Russia signed an agreement with TRANSEARCH Russia with the aim of the further career development for students at SSE and alumni.
The agreement provides for seminars and round tables dedicated to the important and current problems for Russian and foreign managers, with such topics as: ‘Downscaling– deliberate choice or necessity?’, ‘Emotional maturity of leaders’, ‘Networking as effective business tool’, etc.). TRANSEARCH Russia will also present research findings to SSE students and alumni.
